The
ASR Basis Exclusive is our statement Phono preamplifier and
is equipped with the expensive super-quiet Analog
Devices microphone preamp. The
external power supply is based on the Battery-power unit for the
ASR Emitter with 400,000 uF additional filtering. In the housing
of the ASR basis a buffer with a further 700,000 uF is
installed. The ASR Basis is fitted with RCA and balanced XLR
inputs, it can also be fitted with an extra set of RCA and XLR’s
if required (the x2 version).

amplifiers

undergone a significant modification, one that taught this
reviewer something of a lesson. One of the HP High End Rules
is that you can't imagine the bettering of a statement product
sometimes until you hear it bettered. The Basis, as such, was
a revelation: It had such a low noise floor it allowed nuances
of harmonics and spatial information to emerge from a velvety
black background. What I didn't hear, until the new unit came
along [with gold traces], was a kind of hardness in the sound,
