ORCA
Orcas are named after
the Orca killer whale pods that roam/rule the Puget Sound in
Washington State, and have inspired so much of the region's art as
long as humans can remember.
The single Fostex
FE83en wideband drivers in each Orca excels at natural dynamics,
especially microdynamics, and produce an enveloping wall of sound
with pinpoint imagery for your mind and body's pleasure. A
carefully tuned and polished bass reflex ported enclosure with
internally sanded solid wood bass reflex port with 1/8" roundovers
optimizes the bass performance that these drivers are capable of.
The drivers use a special mounting technique via precise torquing
of the driver frame to the wood cabinet and of the bass reflex
port/back panel assembly to the main cabinet. These tuning points
take away the necessity for an “energy robbing” electrical
compensation network (notch filter, etc.) of any kind, or even the
need for any damping material inside the cabinet. All that said,
they are simple, humble little loudspeakers hand made in the USA
(Seattle, Washington) that possess an addictively relaxed
characteristic to their sound - yet able to play many different
kinds of music with equal aplomb.
When the Orcas are
matched with a pair BUF Subs and
the
Tri TRV-A300SE R integrated
amplifier,
you have a system that is pure musical magic.

"These speakers are a dream. The first
impression is the remarkable aesthetic of the cabinets:
perfect lines, balanced architecture and beautiful
eccentricities in the wood grain which make each unit
completely unique. They are a supplement to the design of a
room, not a detraction. The sound from these Orcas is the true
joy: warm and full, but with extraordinary detail. I have the
distinct feeling (for the first time in listening to this
record, though I have played it hundreds of times before) of
being in Carnegie Hall as Vladimir Horowitz plays his recital
of Bach, Chopin, Mozart and Schumann. Or of being wrapped
comfortably inside a blanket of music as Dark Side of the Moon
spins on my turntable. It's like nothing I have experienced
before. Thank you," - Will, Orca owner since 2009
